Notes
The Center for Afterschool, Summer and Enrichment for Kids, or CASE for Kids , is a division of Harris County Department of Education (HCDE) that was formed in 1999. The vision of CASE for Kids is to ensure that every child in Harris County will have access to high-quality, expanded learning opportunities. CASE for Kids believes a quality out-of-school time program provides avenues for opportunities for youth to excel, explore and expand their horizons before school, after school, on weekends and during the summer. A quality program provides a safe and inclusive environment, diverse learning opportunities, effective administrative strategies, collaborative relationships, and intentional program promotion.

CASE for Kids City Connections, funded directly by the City of Houston, supports nonprofit organizations that address the need for youth services outside the school day. Projects funded by the CASE for Kids City Connections program are hosted from a variety of locations including schools, community centers, apartment complexes, churches, and virtual programs. Grants are designed to meet individual Houston City Council district needs and provide prevention-based programming that addresses gaps in services to youth.

CASE for Kids recognizes the impact of the coronavirus (COVID-19) pandemic to the after-school community. Due to COVID-19 and in efforts to support programs, under CDC guidelines, for the fiscal year 2022-2023 grant cycle (January 19, 2023 through April 21, 2023), organizations offering direct service, virtual programs and/or hybrid programs and who have NOT already been awarded in two (2) districts for the 2022-23 year will be considered.

NOTE: Grantees/applicants for the 2022-2023 term may only be awarded for two districts.

  • If awarded in two districts already, you are NOT eligible to apply.

  • If awarded in one district already, you cannot apply for the same district twice.

  • If awarded in one district already, you may submit one proposal for a different district.

  • If you previously applied but were NOT awarded in a district, you may apply again in the same district.

Question
If awarded for Round 2 City Connections, can we reimburse our organization for project expenditures made before the Round 2 grant term started?
Answer Reimbursements for project expenditures are only allowed for expenses made during the grant term of Round 2 which is January 19, 2023-April 21, 2023. You may NOT use City Connections grant funds to reimburse your organization for any expenses that occur before or after that time period UNLESS you were awarded in the first grant cycle. If you were awarded in the first grant cycle, you may only reimburse your organization for expenses made for the project proposed in your first grant application that occurs between October 31, 2022-April 21, 2023.

Question
If you have not submitted a bid before, can you apply now? I don't understand what round 2 is.
Answer
Yes you can apply now if you did not submit before as long as you meet the eligibility requirements. Even if you did apply before, you may apply again as long as you were not already awarded in two districts. Please download and review the Eligibility and Program Requirements document for additional guidelines.
