The City of La Porte is a home ruled municipality located in Harris County Texas and serves a population of approximately 36,000 citizens. The city has 4 fire department locations with sixty personnel currently, thirteen career and forty-seven volunteers. Firefighters are required to undergo rigorous physical examinations and testing due to the unique job requirements of the fire service. The medical and mental health risks are significant. Therefore the ongoing need for a wide spectrum of professional medical services is best provided by those well acquainted with the duties, working conditions, and the mental and physical demands and the shifts/hours required as well as the expectations and stress of emergency response services providers. The Department is seeking a qualified medical provider with a demonstrated knowledge of fire-service specific medical assessments. At a minimum, the provider shall perform the annual physical examinations for all personnel in accordance with NFPA 1582 and the Firefighter Life Safety Initiative.
